Fabrifex Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 12, 2026
Last updated: September 12, 2026

Who this policy is from

Fabrifex is the name under which an independent developer based in the United States builds and runs a small number of hobby projects, including the text game Aquilae. Fabrifex is not an incorporated company. It is one person, and when this policy says “we” or “us,” that is who it means.

This policy explains what personal information Fabrifex collects from you, why it is collected, who else can see it, how long it is kept, and what you can ask us to do with it.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to the Aquilae game server, whether you connect with a MUD client or through a browser based client if one is offered, to the Fabrifex website and any forums or documentation pages hosted there, and to the official Fabrifex Discord server. Links from any of these places to sites we do not run, such as a wiki hosted elsewhere or a community fan site, are outside this policy. Once you leave our services, the privacy practices of whoever runs that other place apply instead.

The short version

We collect very little. Creating an account takes a name and a password. Fabrifex does not have an email address yet, so we do not ask for yours and we cannot send you email. Playing the game produces character data and server logs. We do not sell your information, we do not run advertising, we do not use analytics or tracking services that follow you across the web, and we have no payment system, so we never see a card number. If you want your account and data deleted, ask us on Discord or in game and we will do it.

Information you give us directly

Account registration. When you create an account you choose an account name and set a password. The account name is visible to staff and may be visible to other players depending on how you use it in game. We do not collect an email address. Your password is stored only as a salted hash, so we cannot read it and cannot tell it to you if you forget it. Because there is no address on file and no automated reset, a forgotten password has to be handled by the developer directly. Send a direct message to @Tarquin6 on the Fabrifex Discord, and we will need to satisfy ourselves that the account is yours before we can help.

Character and gameplay data. Everything you build in the game belongs to a record on our server. That includes character names and descriptions, inventory, position in the world, progress, relationships with other characters, and anything else the game needs to remember about you between sessions.

What you write in game. Messages you send through channels, says, emotes, tells, notes, mail, bug reports, and staff petitions are stored on the server. Player to player tells are private in the sense that other players cannot read them, but they are not encrypted and staff with database access can retrieve them. Treat nothing typed into the game as confidential.

Support and correspondence. If you file a bug, message staff on Discord, or raise something with us in game, we keep what you sent along with the Discord username or account name it came from, for as long as it takes to sort out the issue and for a reasonable period afterward in case the same problem comes back.

Discord. If you join the Fabrifex Discord server, Discord gives us your username, display name, avatar, and the messages you post in the channels we can see. That data lives on Discord’s systems under Discord’s own privacy policy, and we only access it through the normal Discord interface. Linking a Discord account to a game account, if that feature exists when you read this, stores the connection between the two on our server.

Information collected automatically

Connection records. Every time you connect, the server records your IP address, the time you connected and disconnected, the client software or browser you used, and the protocol options your client negotiated. These records exist for security and troubleshooting. An IP address is the only practical tool a small game has for dealing with ban evasion, harassment from throwaway accounts, and attacks on the server.

Server and error logs. The game and web server write operational logs that may include your account name, commands that produced an error, and technical detail about what went wrong.

Cookies. The Fabrifex website does not set any cookies. We do not set advertising cookies and we do not embed third party trackers. If that changes, for example if a browser based client is added later and needs a login session, this policy will be updated before it happens.

Public listing crawlers. The game answers status queries from MUD listing sites using the MSSP protocol. Those replies carry only aggregate facts such as the number of players currently online and how long the server has been up. No personal information goes out that way.

Why we use your information

Because we hold no email address for you, anything we need to tell you about your account, about a change to a policy, or about something unusual happening has to reach you in the game itself or through announcements on Discord. We do not send marketing email and there is no mailing list.

We use gameplay and character data to make the game function, since a persistent world is not possible without storing the state of the people in it.

We use connection records and logs to keep the server running, to investigate crashes, to enforce the rules, and to protect players and the server from abuse.

We use what you send to support in order to answer you.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the lawful bases we rely on are the performance of a contract for anything the game cannot work without, our legitimate interest in a secure and well run service for logging and moderation, your consent for anything optional you specifically opt into, and legal obligation where a law requires us to keep or produce something.

Gameplay is not private

Much of what happens in a multiplayer text game is public by design. Other players can see your character, read what you say in rooms and on public channels, and keep their own logs of it with their client software. We have no control over what other players record or where they repost it. Please do not share personal details in game that you would mind a stranger keeping forever.

Who else sees your information

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross context behavioral advertising, and we do not rent, trade, or hand it to data brokers.

A small number of service providers necessarily touch it. The company that hosts the server stores the database and log files on its hardware. If we use a network provider in front of the game or website, it processes your connection and IP address in order to route traffic and block attacks. Discord operates the chat server if you choose to join it. Each of these providers is bound by its own agreement with us and may only handle the data in order to provide its service.

Beyond that, we will disclose information when a valid legal request compels us, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to prevent serious harm to someone, or to establish and defend legal claims. If Fabrifex or the Aquilae project is ever transferred to someone else, account data would move with it, and we would tell players before that happened so anyone who objects has a chance to delete their account first.

How long we keep things

Account records, character data, and anything you wrote in game are kept while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove the account record and the characters attached to it.

Connection and security logs are kept for a limited period, normally no more than twelve months, and then discarded, except where a specific record is part of an open moderation or abuse investigation.

Moderation records, meaning the fact that an account was banned and why, are kept after deletion. Without that, a banned player could erase the history by deleting the account and coming straight back. These records are kept to the minimum needed, usually an account name, an IP address or range, the reason, and the date.

Messages you send staff on Discord stay on Discord until they are cleared out in the ordinary course.

Anything that has been reduced to aggregate statistics, such as how many people played in a given month, is no longer personal information and may be kept indefinitely.

Security, and its limits

The server is kept patched, access to the database is restricted to the person who runs it, and passwords are stored hashed rather than in plain text.

You should know two honest limitations. Standard MUD connections over telnet are not encrypted, so anyone able to observe the network between you and the server could read what passes over it, including your password at login. Connect over an SSL enabled port, or a secure web client, where one is offered. Second, no system is perfectly secure, and a hobby project run by one person is not an exception to that. If a breach happens that puts your information at risk, we will tell affected players promptly and describe what happened. Because we hold no email address for you, that notice will be posted in game, announced on Discord, and published on the Fabrifex website, so that it reaches you even if you are not logged in.

Because of the telnet issue above, never reuse an important password on this game.

Children

Accounts are for people aged thirteen and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen. If you believe a child under thirteen has created an account, tell us on Discord or in game and we will delete the account and its data. Players between thirteen and sixteen in regions where the higher age applies under local law should have a parent or guardian review this policy with them.

Your choices and your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct something inaccurate, or ask us to delete your account and its data. Ask on the Fabrifex Discord or in game, and we will verify that the request really comes from the account holder before acting on it. We answer within thirty days in the ordinary case and will tell you if something makes that impossible. There is no charge, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Deletion has a consequence worth understanding in advance. Characters, progress, and anything you built are gone permanently, and a name you were using becomes available to someone else.

If you are in California. The CCPA as amended gives you the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, the sources, the purpose, and the categories of third party the information went to. It also gives you the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of sale or sharing. Fabrifex does not sell or share personal information and has not done so in the preceding twelve months, so there is nothing to opt out of. We collect identifiers such as your account name and IP address, internet activity information in the form of connection and gameplay logs, and the content you write in game. If you join the Fabrifex Discord or link a Discord account, that also includes your Discord username, display name, and avatar, and the record connecting your Discord account to your game account. We have no financial incentive program and do not discriminate against anyone who exercises a right. You may use an authorized agent to make a request, and we may ask that agent for proof you gave them permission.

If you are in another US state with a privacy law, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and the others that have followed, you have a comparable set of rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy, and to appeal a decision we make about a request. To appeal, say so in the same conversation where we gave you our answer, and we will review it again and give you a written result.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interest, and you may withdraw consent at any time where consent is what we relied on. The server is located in the United States, so playing means your information is transferred there. We rely on your entering into the service with us and on standard contractual clauses with providers where those apply. You may complain to your national data protection authority, or to the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom, though we would rather you came to us first so we can fix it.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not track you across other websites, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track header to switch off. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as an opt out of sale and sharing, which in our case changes nothing because we do neither.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted with a new date at the top. For a change that materially affects how your information is handled, we will announce it in game and on Discord before it takes effect, and where the law requires consent we will ask for it rather than assume it.

How to reach us

Fabrifex does not have an email address yet. There are two ways to reach us, and both are read by the developer directly:

For a forgotten password specifically, send a direct message to @Tarquin6 on Discord, since there is no automated reset.

Anything about this policy, a request about your data, or a concern about how something is being handled should go to one of those. Because Fabrifex is one person rather than a company, there is no separate privacy office and no data protection officer. If an email address is set up later, it will be listed here.

Postal contact can be provided on request if a legal process requires a physical address.
